1. SETTING UP

Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary items at hand. Nothing worse than being halfway through something and having to go look for a missing item.
Here’s the basics of what you’ll need:
- Nail Wraps of choice: Choose your preferred design, whether it’s nail polish wraps or semi-cured gel wraps.
- Nail File: For shaping your nails and smoothing edges. (Your gel wraps will come with its own file, but you can use your favourite if you prefer).
- Cuticle Pusher: To gently push back cuticles and create a clean surface. (Your gel wraps will come with its own cuticle pusher, but you can use your favourite if you prefer).
- Alcohol Swabs: These will come with your gel nails and are used to clean and sterilise your nails before application.
- Curing Lamp: For curing and setting your gel wraps and optional gel top coat.
- Nail Polish Remover & Cotton Pads (Optional): For removing any old nail polish you may have on.
- Top Coat (Optional): This is only recommended for nail polish wraps. A top coat will help with extra shine and durability.
2. PREP YOUR NAILS

This is a very important step. Always start with clean, dry nails to get the best results. Follow these steps:
- Remove Old Polish: Use nail polish remover and cotton pads to take off any existing polish and residue. Ensure your nails are free of oils or old polish for the best adhesion.
- Wash Your Hands: Thoroughly wash your hands to remove any remaining oils or dirt. Your nails are actually very porous, so make sure to dry your nails completely before application. About a minute or two should be fine.
3. CUTICLES, CUTICLES, CUTICLES

Cuticle care and management is one of the most important factors in keeping your wraps in place. It is also important to note there is no one size fits all solution. Some of us have thick, dry cuticles, others have soft and supple. There is only so much we can do to manage what our parents gave us.
Cuticles can also be damaged or hurt easily, so take care when doing your cuticle prep.
The intent here is to create a smooth clean surface for the wraps:
Soften the cuticles: Before you start pushing or cleaning your cuticles you want to make sure they are soft and pliable. You can either soak them in a bit of warm water first or use a cuticle remover solution.
Gently Push Back Cuticles: Using the cuticle pusher provided with the gel nail wraps or your own, begin to gently push back your cuticles.
To Cut or Not To Cut: This is a very controversial subject and there are some of you that may never have to cut your cuticles. If you have thick, dry or both, cutting your cuticles may be necessary to avoid splitting and lifting.
If you decide to cut them, don’t go too close to the skin and make sure you use a suitably sized and sharp cuticle clipper. Also make sure that whatever equipment you use is clean and not shared with anyone else.
Well kept and cared for cuticles is an important step that helps in preventing the wraps from lifting and ensures a longer-lasting manicure no matter what nail product you are using.
4. APPLICATION
Select the right size wrap
If it’s the first time you are applying nail wraps, then rather go smaller than bigger as your first try. This will avoid any contact with the skin on the side of the nails or the cuticles. Contact will result in the wraps lifting or coming off very quickly and you want to avoid that.
NOTE: Fold the wrap over your nail to make sure it will fit from side to side.
Apply the wrap
Center the wrap on your nail and push down with your finger. Then using the wooden cuticle stick, make sure there aren’t any bubbles and theat the nail is snug between the sides and not too close to the cuticle.
If it looks a little to small, you can gently remove the wrap to adjust or stretch it a little. Be careful when stretching patterns as they can become distorted.
Once you are happy with the placement, pinch the excess to create a neat edge along the nail.
File and cure
File and pull off the excess wrap. This can be discarded. It is advisable to do your thumbs first and then complete the rest of your hand.
Cure for 60 second under your UV/LED Lamp. Repeat this process with the rest of your hand. Once you have completed curing all your nails, do a final round of filing and neatening your free nail edge. Correct any snags or uneven nails.
NAIL POLISH WRAPS
All the above steps are exactly the same as the gel wraps, but stops before you begin the curing process. No curing is required at all.
Add some fun
Nail polish wraps or left over gel wraps from other sets that can be a great way to add an accent nail or something fun to the new set. In the images above, I had a leftover set of Pastel Wave Nail Polish Wraps. I initally applied the purple/blue wrap, but it was a little to small. I then removed it and replaced it with the pink/yellow wrap.
5. EXTRA NOTES
Avoid water for 1 – 2 hours
Your wraps will stick immediately, however to get the best results and just incase there was contact with the sides or cuticles, avoid water for 1 – 2 hours after application.
Top Coat
Top coats are not required for either gel or polish wraps.
Nail Polish Wraps are just like a regular nail polish and will wear off very quickly, especially if you are very busy with your hands. Adding a top coat of nail varnish or gel top coat will help to maintain your polish wrap and increase it’s longevity.
Gel Polish Wraps really don’t need top coats, but after a week or two they can become a little dull. Adding a top coat at this point can make them look fresh and last even longer than the usual 2 – 3 weeks.
**Gel Top Coats do require curing under the UV/LED Lamp.
Storage
Remember to keep your leftover gel wraps away from the UV/LED lamp when you are applying them.
Natural and artificial ligths all emit low levels of UV and will slowly harden your unused gel wraps. Store them in the black sleeve that it came in to slow this process down as much as possible.
